I have been asked by so many people, both inside
and outside of government -- journalists, politicians,
ambassadors, lawyers, doctors, friends, family,
acquaintances, Democrats and Republicans alike --
just exactly where I stand on the complex and vexing
question of whether or not the United States, with
all its military resources and vast reach overseas,
should go it alone, go against a rising tide of doubt
and criticism at home and abroad, and mount a
unilateral invasion of Iraq. And I always give
them exactly the same answer, without hardly
having to change a single word. And that answer is:
