Before summer's over I
thought I'd recommend a few
reads for those lazy afternoons
under an umbrella out at the
shark-infested shore. First, sink
your teeth into An Anthology
of Bulwer-Lytton Bad Writing
Award Winners, a 680-page
can't-put-downer of
awkward-to-simply awful prose
deemed the worst by an eminent
panel. Personally, I found the
writing to be excellent. |
Next, soak up The Essays of
Yogi Berra,
thought-provoking musings by the
Hall of Fame backstop on
everything from nanotechnology
("Geez, they're like
tiny little wheels!") to
symbolic logic
("Wha?"). |
And, if you haven't been
swept away by the polluted tide,
crack open the romantic novel Zabibah
and the King, by Saddam
Hussein, who, besides being a
most persuasive writer of the
Danielle Steele-Jackie Collins
variety, is also a high-ranking
politician in his native Iraq. |
That's all for now, and good
reading! |
